With DAFi's MCP connector, ChatGPT, Claude or Perplexity can search and read your DAFi notes, see your courses, upcoming exams and quiz results. Ask for explanations, a quiz or a plan to structure an essay, grounded in your own lectures instead of the whole internet.
DAFi's MCP connector lets ChatGPT, Claude or Perplexity work with your own course notes. Once connected, the assistant you already use can search and read your DAFi notes and their sources, list your courses, see your upcoming exam dates and check your quiz results and progress. Your questions get answers grounded in what your professor actually taught, not in a random page from the web.
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants connect to outside tools. DAFi provides an MCP server at https://mcp.dafi-ai.com/mcp, and the app walks you through the setup.
How it works
- Open the setup guide in DAFi. Go to your account and choose "Connect DAFi to an AI". The guide is also available from the Chat tab.
- Pick your assistant. The guide has instructions for each one:
- Claude: add DAFi as a custom connector. It takes about two minutes.
- ChatGPT: add DAFi through developer mode. Availability depends on your ChatGPT plan.
- Perplexity: available with Perplexity Pro.
- Approve the connection. A DAFi screen titled "Connect to" followed by the assistant's name shows what it will be able to access. You sign in and approve.
- Ask away. In your assistant, mention your notes or courses and it will call DAFi to find the right content.
- Stay in control. Your active connections are listed in DAFi under "Connections", where you can disconnect an assistant at any time.
What you can ask
- "Make me a quiz on this week's lectures."
- "Sum up my week across all my courses."
- "Explain what my professor said about opportunity cost, using my notes."
- "When is my next exam, and which concepts am I weakest on for it?"
- "Help me outline my essay on the causes of the French Revolution using my notes on that chapter."
AI writing help, the right way
Students often look for "AI writing assistance". With DAFi connected, your assistant can help you structure a paper or a lab report from your own notes: find the relevant passages, propose an outline, point out what's missing or explain a concept you're stuck on. The writing, the arguments and the final text stay yours. Check your institution's policy on AI use, and cite your sources. Our article on how to use ChatGPT and Claude to study goes further.
Who it's for
Emma, history student, already uses Claude every day. She connects DAFi once. When she prepares an essay, she asks Claude to pull everything her lectures said about a period and to suggest an outline. She writes the essay herself, with the right sources in front of her.
Nathan, business student on ChatGPT. On Sunday evening, he asks ChatGPT to sum up his week and quiz him on the two courses with exams coming up, all based on his DAFi notes.
Frequently asked questions
What is an MCP connector?

Which assistants are supported?
DAFi's setup guide covers Claude, ChatGPT and Perplexity. Depending on the assistant, you may need a specific plan: ChatGPT's developer mode depends on your plan, and Perplexity requires Pro.
What can the assistant see?
Your profile, your courses, your notes and their sources, your upcoming exams and deadlines, your quiz results and your progress. You see the access requested on the approval screen before connecting.
Does it work on the free plan?
Yes. On the free plan, some notes may come back partial.
Can I disconnect it?
Yes, at any time from "Connections" in DAFi.
Keep using the assistant you like. DAFi gives it the one thing it was missing: your courses. Compare with smart note-taking to see where those notes come from.
